The four remaining packs have endured the winter, waiting for what the spring will bring. Though Kurohyou is no longer young, she still has plenty of energy left over to move her plot forward, which is exactly what she is planning to do. The Omdres Adroit, Forsworn, and Flamestar packs are silent, seemingly waiting to see what the new year will bring. Emerli pack no longer exists. It's leader, Bachie, has mysteriously disappeared and his mate, Naiya, and their pups are dead, leaving one less pack to resist Kurohyou.
In the meantime, Kurohyou has made a change to her plan. Originally she was going to keep her alliance with Flamestar and then betray them when the other packs had been defeated. With Emerli pack gone, however, she had decided to abandon her alliance with the Flamestar pack, who can't seem to keep their leaders straight. She doesn't need more confusion mixed up in her plan.
Now all the packs can do it wait and hope that when Kurohyou comes they can keep her at bay.
